Psychologist & Counselor
Thank you for reaching out and taking your first step in receiving therapeutic services. I am Dr. Ericka Bohnel, and I specialize in individual psychotherapy, clinical coaching, and couples counseling. I have extensive experience working with adults and adolescents, as well as professional athletes, medical doctors and nurses, and CEOs.
I received my doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. I completed my American Psychological Association (APA) approved internship at South Shore Mental Health Center and Quincy Mental Health Center in Massachusetts, where I also completed a postdoctoral fellowship, primarily focusing on forensic and psychological evaluations. Previously, I earned a Master’s degree in Education from Hunter College City University of New York. In addition to my clinical work, I have many years of experience as an Educator at Boston University and Public Schools in New York City.
I have over a dozen years of clinical experience, at both small and large group practices as well as inpatient settings in multiple regions of the country — Veteran’s Affairs in Minneapolis, Minnesota; Commonwealth Psychology Associates in Boston, Massachusetts; and, an out-patient center in Roseville, California.
I treat a range of presenting concerns, with particular clinical interests and specialization in anxiety, trauma, depression, identity development, academic or career related concerns, significant illness and/or chronic health issues. I have special interest in women’s and men’s issues, gender identity and sexual orientation, challenges of identity with intersection of race and ethnicity, and also, relationship difficulties.
My clinical approach draws from several theoretical orientations including relational, existential, and cognitive-behavioral perspectives. I offer a warm, authentic, and collaborative psychotherapeutic environment, which helps clients increase their self-awareness, alter hurtful relationship patterns and develop new pathways of thinking, feeling, and connecting to others.
